Freek Lier

Consultant
I have been working at Decisio since August 2020 and as a planner and economic geographer, I have a wide range of interests and different roles in all kinds of projects. But my heart beats the fastest when it comes to projects in the field of mobility and urban development. Thinking about future challenges is something that really appeals to me. I’m thinking about finding ways to keep shopping areas attractive that are confronted by e-commerce, investigating the potential of MaaS (mobility as a service) and autonomous vehicles and understanding the opportunities of circular economy. As a consultant at Decisio, I want to contribute to these and many other challenges.

And besides work?
Besides work, I can be found on the athletics track a lot. As a little boy of 8, I unexpectedly won the 2 kilometres at de Appelloop in my village Olst. At that time I discovered my talent in running and now, about 20 years later, I still run almost every day. After my time in Olst I lived and studied in Groningen. Here I started with the bachelor’s degree in Social Geography and Planology and after I did my masters in Social Planning and Economic Geography. After my time in Groningen I moved to The Hague.

I also like travelling very much. Especially some ‘less common’ and not too touristy destinations appeal to me. I would also describe myself as a music lover, at home I have a nice LP collection and when the opportunity arises I like to go to a concert or festival.

Calling projects?
A number of appealing projects in which I have worked on are:

  • Research into keeping out heavy traffic in the centre of Utrecht
  • Public Business Case CID Binckhorst The Hague
  • Urban renewal Leeuwarden Centre East.
