Since October 2021, I have been working as a consultant at Decisio. I joined Decisio shortly after completing the Master’s programme in STREEM at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. During my studies, I specialized in environmental economics and urban and regional economics. These are topics that are also a strong focus at Decisio. But also outside these fields, Decisio covers a wide range of themes that excite me as an economist. At Decisio, I conduct research on various scales and subjects: from proposed local area developments to the economic impact of entire municipalities or work regions (such as (air)ports and business parks). The topics I work on are highly diverse, ranging from the impact of spatial or economic policies to the impact of social or health-related policies. A recurring element in my analyses is their quantitative nature. I frequently prepare Social Cost-Benefit Analyses (SCBAs) and societal and economic impact studies, in which extensive data analysis or the development of quantitative methods plays a central role. What makes the work as a consultant so interesting is that you’re often dealing with socially relevant issues, where the research can have real impact. The work is meaningful because, given the often complex subject matter or large volumes of data and information, the challenge lies in drawing clear and understandable conclusions.
After spending the first 24 years of my life in the beautiful village of Spanbroek, I’ve now been living in the regional city of Hoorn for a couple of years. I still spend a lot of time in Spanbroek, where much of my social life takes place and where I play both field and indoor football for my club VVS’46. With two training sessions and two matches per week, I live an active lifestyle. I also enjoy a game of padel or tennis, running and mountain biking. In addition, I love going out with my girlfriend or friends. On weekends, you’ll often find me at concerts, festivals, the sports canteen, or the local pub. When it comes to holidays, I prefer spending them in the mountains!
During my time at Decisio, I’ve had the opportunity to work on many interesting studies. Here are a few examples that stand out to me:
