In the Digital Mobility Data System (DSM), public and private parties work together on digitalisation within the mobility domain. This system offers significant benefits for Dutch society. Improved availability and quality of mobility data can shorten travel times, enhance road safety and reduce emissions. DSM enables more efficient collaboration between public and private stakeholders, leading to better policy decisions and cost savings. Decisio conducted a benefits analysis of the Digital Mobility Data System on behalf of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management.
One of the key advantages of DSM is the improvement of road safety. By sharing up‑to‑date and reliable data, road users are better informed about traffic conditions, resulting in fewer accidents. This leads to annual savings of millions of euros in societal costs.
DSM also contributes to sustainability and climate objectives. By reducing traffic congestion and encouraging sustainable transport options such as public transport and cycling, CO₂ emissions are significantly reduced. This not only delivers environmental benefits but also financial gains through lower fuel costs.
Finally, DSM ensures more efficient use of resources and cost savings. Improved data collection and processing allow governments and businesses to optimise their operations. This results in lower operational costs and higher service quality. DSM is therefore a cost‑effective investment that contributes to a more sustainable and safer mobility system in the Netherlands.
